We are new parents!

New parents of a different sort. No, Senor Dave did not have another child, we have new baby turtles in the cenote at the hotel....they are the littlest, cutest things we have ever seen!!!!

For weeks now we have been waiting for four eggs to hatch in the cenote. They were discovered about two months ago and we have been carefully watching them and waiting. Catalino, our maintanence guy was convinced about week ago that the cats that like to frequent the property had eaten the eggs...I tell you our opinion of the cats had changed pretty drastically. But now we know the truth, the eggs had hatched and we have two maybe three little turtles in the cenote.

This is a nice surprise after our 5 days of hard work...Flavio discovered the turtles as he was resting. our favorite pasttime is to watch the turtles and fish when we need a break. There was a scream and a yell, then in spanish 'Hay Tortugas, chiquitas!' Everyone came to look and there were two....little tiny green turtles that would trying to climb the wall of the cenote as if to get out....so in we went and checked on them...how precious and what a great gift...

So we are all now mamsitas and papacitos, not just Dave..the question is who was the dad who make the turtles pregnant.....that we will never know.....

Hurricane Dean, Just an Inconvenience

Well, it came and went....within the Cancun, Playa Del Carmen and Tulum stretch. I am going ot call it for us, not for others farther south, the poor souls, an inconvenience. There was a lot of work before and after, and thank goodness, not real damage or huge clean up.

No one really knew what to expect, so we all boarded up assuming we would get hit. The town of Playa Del Carmen and Tulum were virtually ghost towns come 4 pm on Monday. Everyone was done their preparations, and headed home. There we all waited....

In Playa Del Carmen, only some of the lights were turned off by the city by 2 am when the winds got a little chilling.....the sound is always the killer. With reports from people in Playa Del Carmen, there was little rain and the sound form the ocean was chilling, but really it was like a strong wind storm.....

In tulum, it was the same, with high winds starting at 2 am and stopping by about 8 30 am. On the highway at 9 am, there was no debris, no closures and this I have to say was a little uneasy, being the only vehicle on the tulum-playa del carmen highway, more uneasy than the hurricane it self...was i being stupid or was i doing the right thing.....well i can say it was the right thing as we got ahead start on our cleaning and was one of hte first businesses up and running.

For our friends in Majahal, and Chetumal we send our prayers and wishes. Been there and it is not fun though there seems to be huge teams of people going down to help out in some way. Their biggest issue is the unusable beach road that gets them in and out....so supplies and help could be a few days....it is bad enough having to dig out a location let alone an entire beach road.

More on that once we get the news. But for us, diving happened today and all is well....until next time.....or the next one....

MOnday August 20......Second Dean Report

Well iti s 2 pm on Monday and the sun is shining.......strange yes but we are ready.....Dive centers, the hotel and all staff are ready...and we will wait....reports say that Dean will come into the Yucatan tothe south near Belize and will hit land in the early morning Tuesday....

As we say Quien Sabes???? who knows????? So we wait....and wait and wait.....

The strange thing is that ocean is beautiful, little wave action at the moment, and the sun is shining...no rain....and we are all ready for a good nights sleep...maybe we will sleep through it.....

So this is the last post for the day...the next time you will hear from us is after Senor Dean passes when we have internet connection....if we are off line it does not mean anything serious, it just means that we do not have service....

Buen Suerte....Good Luck...

and Hasta Manana.....hopefully early.....so you can get the news first hand as to what really happened.....dont beleive a thing the media tells you as we know that they pick the stupidest people who dont prepare for storms just to show NEWS....

The real news will be here soon.....

Dean, Dean, Dean

Well folks, we think it is true....Hurricane Dean is heading this way for Monday night and we are waiting. Well preparing is more like it as none of us can just sit and wait.

On the website of the National Hurricane Center, Hurricane Dean is moving westward towards us, and should be here for a fast and furious visit Monday Night at about 2 a.m.. Nothing we are not used to at this point and it looks like it should be the same as Emily, which hit July 15, 2006. So up go the sheets of plywood, everything gets packed away and then we just wait for Dean to sweep by and leave us with, who knows what.

Now we do have to say that this does not look like another Wilma. Wilma was slow and big, Dean is fast....so the damage should be minimal. Our hopes of course is that it decides to take a turn north and go elsewhere, there is nothing here anyway, go somewhere where you have not been before. We hear that Cuba is nice this time of year so maybe Cuba would be a better idea...

So the blog will be updated daily until we can not get on the internet. That should be monday night at about 9 30 pm....

Funny enough it is a beautiful day. The sun is shining, there is no wind, Todd is in the pool with some Discover Scubas, Feda went out to see the whale sharks yesterday and the rest of us are hanging out putting things away and just waiting to see if Dean really wants to come or decides to go elsewhere.

So keep checking. And after the fact, if there is an after the fact, we will let you know how things are....
